Richard has been meditating for 50 years and has tons of intensive retreat experience. He spent years in a Hindu ashram practicing concentration meditation. He then transitioned to Buddhist practice and completed many silent retreats lasting as long as eleven months.
Richard's style integrates concentration, insight, and compassion into a unified approach. He is the author of the excellent books The Art and Skill of Buddhist Meditation and The Experience of Samadhi.
Richard is the guiding teacher of the Metta Dharma Foundation in Berkeley, CA, and a cofounder of Mindful Schools.
